Podcasts

I listen to quite a lot of podcasts, both to entertain, but also to expose myself to a variety of ideas, discussions, and ways of thinking.

Here are some of my favourites (linked using Pocket Casts links, which is a great player for mobile), in alphabetical order:

  • 2 Dope Queens - great comedy duo with guests, entertaining but also often challenging on various social issues.
  • A Better Life - Chris Johnson doing various interviews, branched off from the book "A Better Life: 100 Atheists Speak Out on Joy & Meaning in a World Without God" and short film of the same name.
  • The Atheist Experience - a call-in show aimed at a non-atheist audience, but certainly doesn't pull punches. Frankly, their approach may be quite off-putting to a lot of theists, but they're very good at dealing with various arguments and fallacies which is educational for the thick-skinned.
  • AWS Podcast - news and interviews about Amazon Web Services if you're a cloud computing professional.
  • Connected - some Apple enthusiasts talking about Apple news, the ecosystem, and living and working with these sorts of technologies.
  • Cortex - chat from some content creators with a focus on how they work and productivity.
  • Criminal - stories of real-life crime from an investigative journalist point of view.
  • The Curious Cases of Rutherford & Fry - science sleuths investigating mysteries sent in by listeners.
  • Dogma Debate - radio show where an atheist host discusses issues with theist guests.
  • Friendly Atheist Podcast - two atheist hosts discuss current affairs, often passionately.
  • Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness - a wonderful weekly exploration into a new topic (such a diverse range!) with an expert, hosted by JVN from Queer Eye fame.
  • Godless Bitches - all-female hosted atheist podcast discussing current events.
  • Hello Internet - a couple of content creators discuss basically whatever comes up, often some coverage of their work on their respective YouTube channels and related projects.
  • Hidden Brain - a fascinating look into different aspects of human behaviours and how they play out in the world.
  • The Infinite Monkey Cage - a changing panel of scientists discussing current affairs and industry news as it breaks into popular news.
  • Intelligence Squared and Intelligence Squared Debates - forum debates on topical matters.
  • Ledger Cast - cryptocurrencies, trading, and the blockchain ecosystem.
  • Lore - stories and mythologies from history covered in beautiful detail and attention to atmosphere.
  • Malicious Life - stories of the history of cybersecurity and formative events.
  • No Such Thing As A Fish - if you've ever watched and enjoyed the show QI, this is a podcast from the writers where they discuss each of their favourite facts for the week.
  • The Philosopher's Zone - interviews on topical philosophy.
  • Rationally Speaking - interviews on various topics from a science and critical thinking angle.
  • Revisionist History - looking back at historical events from new, and often revealingly more accurate, angles.
  • Science Solved It - strange events and goings on that were sometimes attributed to the paranormal, or simply unexplainable, that science has finally cracked.
  • The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe - a panel of skeptics discuss current news as well as some fun regular features such as their "Science of Fiction" game where the panelists have to work out from a list of several items which are news and which is the made up one.
  • Subnet - a brief, daily tech news update.
  • Talk Nerdy - a scientist host interviews scientist guests on their area of speciality.
  • The Thinking Atheist - usually interesting topical content and interviews from an atheist host.
  • Unbelievable - radio show where a theist hosts discussions of issues with theist and atheist guests.
  • Ungeniused - a couple of tech enthusiasts talking through some of the weirdest corners of Wikipedia.
  • Very Bad Wizards - a philosopher and psychologist talk ethics, culture, and science.
  • Waking Up - neuroscientist / philosopher host interviewing people he doesn't agree with, and some he does, on controversial topics.
  • You Are Not So Smart - a podcast on science, philosophy, cognition, and fallacies.

I've left out a few that I don't listen to regularly or that have concluded. Feel free to let me know if you have other recommendations: @Japh
